[personal profile] starfishstar posting in [community profile] holmestice

(Yikes, this got really long, once again. Sorry! But it’s good to be back!)

Name: starfishstar
Contact email: will put it in the form
AO3 username: starfishstar

I will create:

A fanwork of the following type(s): fic
(I’m also vaguely curious to maybe try podfic someday, after [personal profile] rachelindeed suggested it, but I’ve never done it and know nothing about the technology required, so this may not be the right time for trying something new…)

In one or more of the following parts of fandom:
Books: This is tricky, because thanks to Covid-19 I don’t have access to my public library, where I would usually source books for canon review! I could write Sherlock Ferret because I own that (though I have to admit I don’t think I’m the best choice for writing cute and clever animal stories). I also *might* be able to write the following book ‘verses depending whether the request is based on specific books I do or don’t have. (Sorry that that isn’t very helpful!) – Mary Russell series; Charlotte Holmes series; Shelby Holmes series.
TV/Film: BBC Sherlock; could also do My Dearly Beloved Detective, but since I’ve written that a couple times fairly recently for Holmestice, it would be nice to branch out to something else :-)
Comics/radio/other: Yes indeed, OTHER, a.k.a. where my heart lies ;-) for example:
…221B Baker Towers (I do have reservations about writing this ‘verse – despite already having done it once! – because it’s set in a very specific location and culture that is very much not my own. But if there’s a request that allows the latitude for approaching it respectfully, I’m game for trying to approach it respectfully.
…and weird random More Holmes stuff like the kitten (no, Sanguinity, I haven’t forgotten about kitten Holmes!) or maybe some of the various Muppet/puppet versions from [personal profile] sanguinity's “bonkers Holmesiana” sign-up last year. (How had I not watched “The Case of the Disappearing Clues” before? That made me laugh a lot just now.)
…in other words, this is my official “I’m potentially up for random things beyond my sign-up, mods, if you want to ask for something specific.”

For one or more of the following relationships: Any, except incest romantic pairings. And I’d rather not focus on the “villain” characters (Moriarty, Moran…and definitely no Eurus in the BBC world). Equally happy to write gen or pairing!

I like working with one or more of the following categories: Alternate Universe (canon-divergent or full-on AU); Romance; Established Relationship; Friendship; I don’t think I’m the strongest at casefic, but I can try!

With any of the following ratings: 1) suitable for general audiences; 2) non-explicit sexual content; 4) mild to moderate violence or depictions of non-sexual mature themes

I am willing to create for the following squicks and/or kinks: Generally none, but will try to be flexible based on the recipient’s requests! I’m not your go-to person for full-on sex scenes, though.

I want to receive:

A fanwork of the following type(s): fic

In one or more of the following parts of fandom:
221B Baker Towers – I still and always second Sang’s prompt that asked to see more of what it looks like that the “Moriarty” of this world is the system itself, systemic poverty and inequality, rather than a single criminal mastermind. (See that Tumblr link for more.) I included nods to that idea in my own 221BBT fic, but didn’t find a way to go deeper with it, so I would still love to see it!
– Commonplaces (Naomi Novik short story from the collection “The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” – I can’t check this book out again because the pandemic has shut the public library down, so all I remember is that I liked this story and I thought it would be fun to request it. So if you can track down the story, have at it and do whatever you like with it!
– Watson and Holmes comic – I’m not much of a comic book/action genre person, so the first volume (A Study in Black) intrigued me more for the characters than the plot. And in volume 2, it was the Lyndsay Faye stories that were great, with all those nods to canon that so clearly came from the pen of a Holmes fan. So I’d love to know anything and everything about this Watson (juggling a super demanding career + the whirlwind that is life around Sherlock Holmes + being a parent!) And/or I’d be delighted to see other ACD canon stories updated into this ‘verse, like Lyndsay Faye does in vol. 2. Oh, and! Who are Holmes’ Irregulars in this ‘verse?
– My requests don’t generally run toward ACD canon, or the Mary Russell series, BUT I think both of those could be really fun for *crossovers*! Seeing Holmes and Watson (or Holmes and Russell) meet Phryne & Jack from Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries AND/OR Peter & Harriet (& Bunter?) from the Lord Peter Wimsey novels would be super, super fun. Somehow I especially want Phryne and Russell to meet. I think Phryne would have a lot of wisdom – and joy – to share. OH. And I just realized that, canonically, Russell and Phryne are exactly the same age! (Both born in 1900.) That would be *very* interesting to explore, their two very different life trajectories during the same period. And btw it’s canon that Russell knows Lord Peter (I recently went and hunted up that delightful bit – it’s in “A Letter of Mary.”) So that would be fun to explore, too.
– Anybody want to write in the Shelby Holmes ‘verse? A sweet middle-grade-fiction take on Holmes and Watson. :-)
– I’m also happy to receive BBC Sherlock. Give me something where Lestrade gets to be the hero of his own story. Or Mycroft being Mycroft. Or put the spotlight on one of the great female characters. (Anthea? Mrs Hudson??) Or just something fun of Sherlock and John together, whether that’s platonically devoted or desperately in love. Do please go ahead and ignore the entire existence of S4, if you want. ;-)
– and…of course…I am totally up for bonkers More Holmes. Tell me a delightful tale of the monster from “The Case of the Disappearing Clues” or the dog from “Sherlock Holmes and I” or the whale from, you know, the whale, OR KITTEN SHERLOCK HOLMES as chronicled by Watson, who is of course an enormous, good-natured dog, the faithful companion of tiny petulant kitten Holmes.

For one or more of the following relationships: Same as in my offers! Any, except incest, and I’d prefer not to have a focus on villain characters. Equally happy for the focus to be on romance, or friendship, or a sibling/family relationship. (I also love found family type stuff.)

I like stuff in the following categories: Romance; Established Relationship; Friendship; Humor; Case Fic; Alternate Universe; Crossover; looking back at that tropes meme we were all doing a while ago, apparently things I really like include: Found Families; Friends to Lovers; Loyalty Kink; Seemingly Unrequited Pining, a.k.a. go ahead and dial the UST up to 11 as long as it gets resolved by the end ;-) Oh, and I love when a seemingly crackfic concept gets treated with real emotional depth.

With any of the following ratings: 1) suitable for general audiences; 2) non-explicit sexual content; 4) mild to moderate violence or depictions of non-sexual mature themes

I wouldn’t mind any of the following squicks and/or kinks: None, generally, but I don’t mind a passing reference to pretty much anything if it serves the story you want to tell.

Please include further details about what you’d like to receive: I feel like I accidentally already included all my “further details” above, where I listed fandoms. But I’m happy to give more thoughts via the mods, if needed! DNW: major character death; torture or extreme violence or whump, that sort of thing; Omegaverse; character bashing.

Special requests: This applies to requests, but I suppose also to offers… I’m usually open to most things, but the last couple of years have been *really* hard. So I’d appreciate a fic on the happier side of things. :-) That certainly doesn’t mean there can’t be tension or conflict, but I’d like things to end well for our characters.

That’s all! Hurray, happy 20th round, Holmestice!

ACD Books!
