Author: [livejournal.com profile] sanguinity
Verse: Nicholas Meyer, The Seven Percent Solution
Characters/Pairings: John Watson, Sherlock Holmes
Rating: Teen
Warnings: major character death; past drug use
Summary: Holmes returns to Baker Street.
Author note: [livejournal.com profile] rachelindeed’s lovely prompt got me to thinking about post-Seven Percent stories, and what the novel’s revision of Reichenbach might look like when extended through “The Empty House.” As it turned out, this story is angstier than they asked for, hence my making it a general treat for the community.

“My dear fellow,” said Holmes not unkindly, holding me by the arm, “you mustn’t take it so hard. I tell you I am going to recover. But I need time. It may be a long time.” After a pause, he went on hastily. “But I shall return to Baker Street, you have my word. Please give my best to Mrs. Watson.”

Title: Playing The Game: Act I – Pawns & Politics, Secrets & Strategy
Link to AO3: Playing the Game
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] colebaltblue
Author: [livejournal.com profile] scandalbaby
Fandoms: Sherlock/Marvel Cinematic Universe (specifically, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" with mentions of characters and events from The Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Characters: Molly Hooper, Maria Hill, Sherlock Holmes, Mary Morstan, Natasha Romanov and Clint Barton with brief appearances by Tom, Mycroft Holmes, Sharon Carter, Peggy Carter, Nick Fury, Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers
Pairings: Eventual Sherlock Holmes/Molly Hooper, current Tom/Molly Hooper and John Watson/Mary Morstan and implied one-sided Steve Rogers/Sharon Carter
Rating: Bordering somewhere between PG/PG-13
Warnings: Some language
Summary: Molly Hooper is a legacy, one of Peggy Carter's two granddaughters and a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in her own right. However, due to a horrific event in her immediate family she left that life behind and settled into a life as a meek, mousy pathologist. But when S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised by the HYDRA uprising and Natasha Romanov leaks all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secrets onto the internet that includes Molly's as well. Knowing that, Mycroft asks Molly to do a favour for Queen and country to best protect Her Majesty's interests in the matter. What Molly doesn't realize, though, is that agreeing to do this favour is just the beginning of her trip back down the rabbit hole into her former life.
Authors Notes: First off, many thanks to the wonderful mods for granting me an extreme extension due to the one-two gut punch of horrible real life stuff that happened close to my extra week's extension deadline. I greatly appreciated it even though I didn't need too much of it. ::hugs them both:: You guys are magnificent and I love you.

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] colebaltblue gave me a ton of ideas (like, a ton) and the two that stuck out most were "spies" and using the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I just got hit with the idea of Molly being Peggy's granddaughter via Peggy's canon daughter. Originally I was going to have both acts to this story written, Act I (focusing on the events of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" with mentions of corresponding Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. events) and Act II (focusing on AoS after an AU version of "Beginning of the End," which is hinted at in this fic), but even with the extreme deadline extension I was only able to finish Act I, but it reads well enough on its own as a complete story. I will be writing Act II at a later date, though (and I promise, that one will have much more action spy stuff)!

Also, just a note: I do plan on bringing Sharon in again in Act II and having her and Molly work out their differences, so forgive the fact that she seems a bit like a bitch in this. She’s not going to be that way in Act II. As I said, I didn’t get to write it so that’s the only real bit that feels really unfinished to me that I want to assure you has a resolution. I think Sharon’s awesome and want to make sure she’s treated better in the sequel.

Beta: the amazing [livejournal.com profile] cherrytide was so kind as to help me. She’s a wonderful writer and an incredibly kind and resourceful beta. Thanks to her this has become a much better story than it would have been otherwise.

Summary: As if aware the deal was about to be struck Sherlock lifted his gaze from the violin to lock it with Mycroft’s over the honey-coloured waves of hair artfully coiled around Victor Trevor’s head. Sherlock winked. That moment the boy hit a wrong key. The discordant note had several of the younger ladies cry out in alarm. Exasperation and distaste flitted over Sherlock’s face before he tilted his torso solicitously towards the distraught musician, encouraging him to continue.

Summary: Once, when I was young and as yet completely unknown to the public, and my association with John Watson was in its early days, I found myself trapped in a cupboard with an unconscious ruffian and a female thief for company.

Notes:

When you requested "casefic in which the case and relationship aspects are related (i.e. the case somehow furthers John and Sherlock's relationship)" I just had to give that a go, because it's what I most often write! Such an idea really needs a long and complex fic to do it full justice, but I hope this shorter version still works for you.

Many thanks to Tripleransom for beta-reading!

"...[the] arrest of Wilson, the notorious canary-trainer, which removed a plague-spot from the East-End of London" (BLAC)

"While a thriving trade in singing-birds is indeed carried on in the East End, the word 'canary', in criminal slang, also refers to a female sentry posted in the street during a burglary to "sing out" if danger approaches." (Tracy's Encyclopaedia Sherlockiana)

Having two characters called Wilson and Watson in the same story can only lead to confusion, so I renamed him Belhew.

Summary:
“And for another, Dr. Freud has saved my life. And,” Holmes added, taking up his glass once more, “had you, Watson, not contrived to get me here against my will, Dr. Freud would never have had the opportunity to save a doomed addict. To both of you, in fact, I owe my life. To Watson, here, there will be a lifetime to repay the debt, but to you, Doctor, I confess I am at as loss.”
