Title: The Glorious Disguise
Recipient: [personal profile] sanguinity
Author: [personal profile] starfishstar
Verse: My Dearly Beloved Detective
Characters/Pairings: Shirley Holmes/Jane Watson
Rating: PG
Words:2,700
Warnings: none
Summary: On a quiet night in front of the fire at 221B Baker Street, Shirley tells Jane about the greatest disguise of her career.

Notes:
Dear Sanguinity, you are a pillar of the Holmestice community in general, and an inspiration to me in particular, and here is a Holmestice treat for you! You asked what led Shirley and Jane to apply for these roles; and you often mention your love of “old and deep relationships with a lot of history in them.” I’ve tried to give you a little of both those things.

To those who may not know “My Dearly Beloved Detective”: In this ‘verse, Sherlock Holmes is fictional, but people kept looking for him and his detective skills, so eventually a real detective agency was set up at 221B Baker Street. Shirley Holmes and Jane Watson are the two women who stepped into those famous literary roles.

And by the way, in the film Shirley and Jane part ways at the end, but in my world that never happened. :-)

Thank you to [personal profile] colebaltblue for betaing and enthusiasm!

Verse: Murder by Decree
Characters/Pairings: GEN, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson
Rating: Teen/Mild to moderate violence of depictions of non-sexual mature themes [reference to Jack the Ripper, nothing gory, and reflections on the past and future]
Warnings: Minor Angst then FLUFF, Humour, Slices of Life, Christmas, Friendship.
Word count: 3,275

Author’s Notes: graycardinal had Murder by Decree listed as an option and I couldn’t resist delving into the Holmes and Watson as portrayed by Christopher Plummer and James Mason respectively. This Holmes and Watson are more mature and settled into life with each other, hopefully I’ve captured their spirit.

The title comes from a well-known British song, (which I have heard often and also sang off-key *ahem*), “I do like to be Beside the Seaside”, that admittedly was written in 1907 so a bit after 1888! However, I assure you that the lyrics do not appear in this story, it just fit the feel of fic. :)

Thanks to my beta who has ventured into the rarer Sherlock Holmes adaptions for me!

Summary: After unveiling the sordid conspiracy behind the Jack the Ripper killings, Holmes decides what he and Watson need is a holiday from London and where better than spending Christmas by the seaside?

Rating: Mature / Non-explicit Sexual Content
Warnings: Minor Angst, Fluff, Romance, Hurt/Comfort, Humour, Light Case fic, First Time, Friendship, Period-Typical views.
Word count: 8,911

Author’s Notes: iwantthatcoat noted a love for blending ACD canon stories set in other universes. So, since the Rathbone films were an option I have done my best to blend an ACD story into a Rathbone setting. It is a bit light on the case fic as I am new to case fic, and focuses more on Holmes and Watson’s relationship. I hope this is acceptable!
The inspiration comes from the short story “The Reigate Puzzle” (with a dash of retirement appearing on the horizon) and is absorbed into the Rathbone era in true style.

Summary: When Holmes is taken ill on his latest case Watson whisks him away to an old soldier friend of his, a Colonel Dafydd Jones. On a quiet little estate in Wales both men come to a new understanding.

The words spill out of his mouth, “Did I ever tell you what happened to my soulmate?”
“No,” Sherlock rolls onto his side, “...’ssumed you didn’t wanna talk about it.”
“I met him in Afghanistan. On Christmas.”
“Interesting…”
John looks to Sherlock to see one of his eyes his half opened, “Yeah… we promised to-,” John yawns, “-to meet each other next Christmas.”
He feels Sherlock tense up next to him and he looks at Sherlock; confused. What was wrong?
“What happened?”

Thank you to Ariane Devere for their Sherlock transcripts. All canon dialogue is from them. Also, thank you to Luthe for being my beta. They dealt with my awkward rambling and this fic would be a lot worse without them. (Also, all spacing errors here are fixed on A03.)

To Fridaythegowerstreetcat: I did not know if no major character death included canon character death. If it did, I apologize sincerely.
