Notes:
This story draws its initial inspiration from a single image: that of a tabby kitten with a deerstalker and calabash, which appears at the end of the closing credits for the 1980s television series Remington Steele. Readers will quickly discern that it also departs from that image in a key respect. This is because, in working out the dynamics of the scene presented below, the breed characteristics made much more sense once they had been flipped. Here, then, is the prospective foundation of a kitten!Holmes story universe….
