Oh my gosh this is so charming and funny and beautifully done! Bilbo/John's affectionate, scolding voice is spot-on, Smaug/Sherlock looming dangerously in the dark had me grinning, and Smaug's secret and his adoration of his pressie made me grin hugely! I love how you play with light in this, first with Bilbo/John in silhouette and Smaug/Sherlock in chiaroscuro and the way their care for one another is revealed in the light of the lantern (which for me is totally a metaphor for the delicate, beautiful relationship). I also like the throw-back to ASiB with Sherlock appearing nekkid :D This is an absolute delight, MA. Thank you for this! Also? New!headcanon thoroughly and gleefully accepted.
