"Watson," said he, "if it should ever strike you that I am getting a little over-confident in my powers, or giving less pains to a case than it deserves, kindly whisper 'Norbury' in my ear, and I shall be infinitely obliged to you."
— The Adventure of the Yellow Face
Because even Sherlock Holmes sometimes needs someone to look over his work.
If you're available to beta or Britpick for someone, please leave a comment with the following information:
Email: (or other preferred contact method)
Types of fanworks you can beta: (fic, art, graphics, vids, etc.)
Fandoms: (Doyle, BBC, Elementary, 22nd Century, etc.)
Pairings: (it's helpful to name what you are willing AND not willing to work with)
Ratings: (if you will or won't beta explicit sex, graphic violence, etc.)
If you have any other limitations or areas of expertise, please feel free to include them! Suggestions include fic length, time constraints, availability, areas of special knowledge, or particular strengths or weaknesses.
If you need a beta, please check the comments to see if someone is right for you. (Show a care with your anonymity, please, and refrain from leaving public comments that suggest what you're making for the exchange.) If you can't find who you need in the comments, please email the mods at holmesticemods@gmail.com, and we'll help you find someone.
Also! We recommend sherlock60's Round 5 Discussion Posts. scfrankles spent over a year compiling historical linkspams on topics inspired by the original canon stories, and then generously shared what she learned with all of us. I highly recommend the collection for anyone needing inspiration or background for Victorian- or Edwardian-era fanworks!

Email: thomashefskyatshubert gmail com
Types of fanworks you can beta: any
Fandoms: ACD, Granada, Livanov, most canon-inspired Holmes movies or series or parodies
Actually, it's easier to tell you what I CAN'T beta: BBC Sherlock. House. Elementary. Any book series that isn't canon or Eve Titus. New Russian. Any anime, manga, or video games.
Pairings: any except Moriarty/Holmes or Holmes/Holmes of any kind (big exception: Holmeses from different universes meet one another)
Ratings: I will: beta explicit sexual content
I WON'T: beta anything that you would consider darkfic. Anything with graphic gore, violence, serious character injury, any consent issues, a focus on dark! or arsehole!Holmes. Focus on health issues. Focus on ugly facets of a case. If it has an M or E-rating for anything other than sexual content, I won't beta it.
If in doubt, please just send me a message. :)
I am well-versed in the Victorian/Edwardian period, have been a Holmesian for many years and feel confident to spot any Americanisms and anachronisms, but please note that I am neither a Brit nor a native speaker. That said, I've read from and researched the time period enough that I can confidently say I'll probably be o' some use to you. :)

Fandoms: Doyle or BBC. Will also look at others for SPAG, continuity and britpick.
Pairings: anything other than incest
Ratings: I prefer G and PG, but will consider others on their merits.
I will also Britpick if you have a regular beta and just want a read through.

Types of fanwork: fic
Fandoms: ACD Holmes, Soviet (Lenfilm) Holmes, Granada Holmes, Bert Coules adaptation, most anything Victorian!Holmes
Pairings: Mary/Watson, Holmes&Watson, the rest is fine so long as it's platonic and/or QPR
Ratings: no sexual content, no matter how mild, but most anything else
Areas of Expertise: I do anything from character development to plot development (I'm better at the former) and I can also do proofreading and surface editing.
Other details: I'll beta fics up to 10k in length and I can do more in-depth edits in a week's time or so, though that can vary. I also cannot Britpick at all. I am quite honest in my comments and will point out what I think can be improved in your work.
Contact me anytime during the week, but I only answer as soon as I can, which is weekdays.

Date: 2023-10-20 02:06 pm (UTC)Types of fanworks you can beta: I suppose I can beta anything? but I do not have skills in art or vid-making. Fic is my comfort zone.
Fandoms in descending order of familiarity: ACD canon, Granada, Elementary, Rathbone, BBC Sherlock. ETA! I also am familiar with the Laurie R. King series, Lyndsay Faye's Holmesian novel and stories, and Alexis Hall's The Affair of the Mysterious Letter.
Pairings: I'm happy to beta for Holmes/Watson in any setting (though I just don't see it in Elementary, I can see it made compelling.) Also happy to beta for Watson/Mary Morstan, or Holmes/Watson/Morstan. I don't read the Adler/Holmes relationship as sexual but again, if that floats your boat! I'm not sure there's any universe in which I can picture Holmes/Lestrade (mentally checked. I really don't think there is. Not even Elementary, and I love Sean Pertwee.)
Ratings: I'm asexual-ish, so I don't think you want me beta-ing your smut, though I don't mind it as such. Sexual assault/violence is a no-go for me personally, but I think that's my only hard line. I usually only write through M, myself, to use the AO3 rating system.
Additional details: I am an opera nerd with above-average historical literacy, in case that's helpful. I have big feelings about Sherlock Holmes and the social issues of his day, in fact! I have also taught English composition and continue to mark essays as part of earning my daily crust. Whether this is viewed as an asset or a drawback may depend on you! Also: I'm not a Britpicker, but I have lived in NYC, so if any Elementary-writers want local color, I might be able to help.
