I always enjoy smut, but this time around I’d really love something plotty.
Things I like: Focus on Holmes/Watson relationship (romantic or friendly). Hurt/comfort with Watson as the wounded party (injury not illness). Watson!whump is absolutely my cup of tea, especially if he's hurt while doing something heroic/protecting Holmes/being selfless (but please no cringing/helpless/milquetoast Watson). I love BAMF Watson fighting against the odds without giving up. Holmes worrying over Watson (but trying not to show it) and a baddie using Waston as leverage against Holmes are nice too. I will never say no to baddies doing something untoward to Watson (violence, torture, exploiting war injuries, sexual advances). I enjoy sleuthing, casefic, nods to ACD canon, and the boys being generally clever. The more in-character, the better. If Holmes/Watson sex is included, I prefer established relationship (don’t care who tops).
Nitpicks but not deal breakers: I prefer third person POV, I don’t particularly like pet names (with the exception of Mother Hen and Old Cock), and modern cursing kind of throws me out of a fic.
Do not want: mpreg, gender-swap, incest, kid!fic, AU, crossovers, song!fic, deathfic, amnesia, super schmoopy fluff, crack, dark!anybody.
