Canon: I am eternally interested in the secondary characters, especially the menagerie of Violets, Kitty Winter, Isadora Klein, Lestrade, Hopkins, all the Yarders in general, Shinwell Johnson, Porlock… any of them. Character studies are always good for these sorts, as are post-canon explorations of what-comes-next. Maybe one of these characters becomes a return client? Or suspect? In terms of art, I love seeing non-standard depictions of canon characters.
Lady Sherlock series: I had read the first book a few years ago, and it was… fine. Nothing especially amazing, but good enough that I went ahead and kept picking up the books in the series. I recently binge-read the next four books, all of which I found MUCH better than the first book. I’ll… put my requests behind a spoiler cut, I guess? I’m really intrigued about the slow build of Moriarty, and the connections to the family. I ADORE Livia, she’s probably my favourite, and so anything about her would be great. I’d especially love to see her and Penelope Redmayne have an adventure together; they don’t get to interact as often, and I’d love to see Penelope’s enthusiasm matched with Livia’s caution. They’re two of our three Watson characters (in my opinion), so I’d love to see them get to work together. I really liked Mrs Watson’s relationship with the Maharani in book four – a fic on their relationship before the canon period would be cool, or an epistolary fic after the events of book four would be wonderful, especially if you can work in the Maharani’s wife somehow. I do not care for the relationship between Charlotte and Lord Ingram, however, so please avoid writing that.
Enola Holmes: So there is a new Enola Holmes book coming out later this year, which I’m… excited about but worried about? It appears to pick up not long after the first series left off, with Enola in business and taking on clients and Living Her Life, which I DO like – so I’d enjoy fic like that. How does Enola go back to work after all has been revealed at the end of the first series? What are the road bumps she encounters, now that she has a relationship with her brothers again? When does she next run into Lady Cecily, since they seem bound to run into one another again?
Mary Russell: I’d love to see more of Mary interacting with THE TWENTIES, because while we get glimpses here and there, and hilarious moments of her being very wrong-footed and uncomfortable in the set of folks who really got into The Roaring Twenties, I’d like to see her end up immersed in the glitzy glam jazz era side, and falling more into the darkness that the glitzy glam side is hiding. There’s been some of this in the more recent books, like her playing chameleon in Island of the Mad, and in Riviera Gold. With or without Holmes, I just want her to have to reckon, full force, with the somewhat stereotypical but very much real Roaring Twenties. I’d also love someone to try to tackle the direction that the series has been moving recently, with Russell realizing her life is rather small and there is more out there in terms of social circles and hobbies and interests, as well as her fallings out and loss of relationships.
Shelby Holmes: These are such sweet little stories. I’d love to see something slice-of-life for Shelby and John, maybe non-case related. I also find the art style for these books absolutely charming.
Shirley and Jamila Save Their Summer: Do the people they encountered and brought together help with future investigations? What does their next investigation look like? Can Jamila ever get Shirley to play basketball with her??? Art of these two together would be great – maybe of them hanging out together in one of their bedrooms, or the aforementioned basketball attempt?
Mrs Hudson and Mary Watson Investigations – I think the first book may now be out in the United States! With a… new title? Apparently the first book is now called “All Roads Lead to Whitechapel”. Anyway, the book series by Michelle Birkby! It’s so good! And so unknown, so please go read it! We’ve gotten some conversations between Holmes and Mrs Hudson in the series itself, acknowledging quietly what Mrs Hudson is doing, but what about Holmes and Mary? I’d love to see how Holmes approaches her, and how Mary reacts and handles him. I’d also enjoy seeing how Watson and Mary came to a decision where he would teach her medical stuff. And I’d love to see Mary, Mrs Hudson, and Irene team up once more.
Test of the Professionals – I love how Wilson writes Lestrade and the Yarders. Literally give me an entire story about the Yarders doing something together and I’d be over the moon. I owe my entire fascination with the Yarders to this series, and now I’m always craving more.
Rathbone & Bruce Radio series: This is one of my comfort series. The wine advertisements are my favourite part – my partner and I like to quote Petri wine adverts to each other. I’d love to see something in the script format or even, weirdly, a moment between Watson and Harry Bartell after they finish recording a show? Or Bartell visiting Watson and lo and behold, Holmes is there? I literally listen to this almost every night before I fall asleep because it’s just so silly and charming.
Bert Coules Radio Plays – I love everything that Coules did with both the canon and his extracanonical stories. I’d love some episode tags that build on some of the added moments. Or art based around some of those moments in the series would also be cool – especially if the moments were from the New Adventures.
The Irregulars – I admittedly have not watched the entire series yet, because my power was out the day I planned to binge watch it. But I will have watched it all by the time reveals are posted! I love Bea, she is the best, and I would love something Bea focused. Also, the visuals in this series cry out for fanvids (although I understand it is very dark, visually speaking, so that may be difficult).
The Affair of the Mysterious Letter: In worldbuilding in this book feels incidental rather than intentional, so I’d love to see someone take it and MAKE it intentional. We see two areas of the world that are clearly influenced by other fictional works – a Cthulhu-esque one, and a fairytale-esque one. Is there another area that is inspired by a different fictional work (Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, Middle Earth, etc)? What happens to take Wyndham and Haas there? Alternatively, something that explores John Wyndham more, especially his backstory. (If you want to leave out the constant “and then they said something that my values do not allow me to repeat”, I would be appreciative – loved the book, started to twitch at how often that writing convention was used.) And does Wyndham finally get a boyfriend?
Elemental Masters: Okay, so, huge caveats with this one. I have only read the first Holmesian book, Study in Sable. I… did not super like the book, to be perfectly honest. What I DID like was Watson and Mary, and their relationship with Holmes. HE BOUGHT THEM A FLAT SO THEY COULD STAY NEARBY. WATSON AND MARY PROTECT HIM WITH ELEMENTAL SPIRIT THINGIES. I AM DYING. I also loved Mary and Watson running their own investigations. I guess I’d like to see maybe some more of their investigations that intersect with Holmes’ investigations and his steadfast “la-la-la”ing of their powers. Or maybe more domestic moments like we see in the book, with Holmes crashing their supper so he can ramble at them to unstick his brain, or maybe the reverse. Just… don’t include the two main characters from the book itself?
Special requests: I have an asterisk next to offering ACD because I am not an ideal candidate for actually writing Holmes and Watson for ACD – I’d much rather focus on secondary characters from ACD.
