[personal profile] holmesticemods posting in [community profile] holmestice
Thank you so much for another wonderful round of Holmestice! The mods want to say THANK YOU to all the creators who joined us this round -- especially given how tumultuous this year has been. Being in this community with you is a joy and an honour.

Reveals and the Master List go up on December 21st. Until then, please enjoy and comment on all the lovely fanworks. Creators, please do NOT respond to Dreamwidth comments or post your works elsewhere on the Internet until reveals go up in the community. You may of course reply to comments on AO3, which preserves your anonymity.

In the meanwhile, stay tuned: treats are coming up! For anyone thinking of making a treat, we will accept treats right through until reveals, so if there's a prompt that inspires you, please have at it! Just use the regular submission guidelines and send your headers to holmesticemods@gmail.com.

If you'd like to guess who created what in this round, here's a list of all the contributors for the main gifts. (You'll have to put in some extra work to guess the treat-makers!) Go ahead and take a guess! It's all in good fun.

Although Sang may be the more prolific writer between the two of us, I would like to point out in my defense I had multiple posted Hornblower stories under my belt when I wrote that. She helpfully pointed out the prompt, but the evil machinations were all mine. Not that I wasn’t thoroughly encouraged....

Oh yes, I remember! In fact, I even made a comment on the Guessing Post at the time pointing out that you were also a HH writer and should be on everyone's suspect list...but then I said I still thought it was Sang!! LOL, I got so close to the truth, and yet could not have been further away :P

Hee hee, I'm sure you are full of evil machinations, as ever! But I think it's telling that, in the history of Holmestice, that's the only time someone has deliberately set out to make people think they were one specific other participant. The fact you were such good friends, and already wrote in one another's HH verses, made it the perfect opportunity to pull this trick :) I'll be curious to see whether someone else tries it one of these days...

Wait, didn't you try, with one of your early Holmestice vids, to get people to think it was me? Including how you wrote your summary and tags? And a couple people bit, as I recall.

The first time I vidded for Holmestice I was definitely *hoping* people would think it was you! You only get the element of surprise once for branching out into a new form of fanwork, and you were our only non-BBC vidder at the time so I was hoping some people would see it and assume it was yours :) But beyond making a vid for a MoreHolmes verse, I don't think I did anything else devious? I don't remember imitating your tags or summary style, but I do recall that I decided against leaving an authors' note at all, because I thought I would be too likely to give myself away on that front.

I defer to you. On reflection, perhaps I
  • was the one who was privately conniving how you could make your work look more like mine. :-P

And well you should! Honestly, I think you and I would make a perfect team for this type of thing, because in my experience it's really hard to recognize one person's vidding style versus another's unless they're really idiosyncratic -- generally it's a good deal harder than distinguishing writing styles or art styles because all this grammar/punctuation detective work is useless and the common source material of film removes many of the individual stylistic fingerprints that most visual artists display in hand-drawn art. Especially if the vidders don't use title or end cards (so no formatting tells), and if they vid in roughly similar verses (as we already do.)

Has there been any round of Holmestice since I started vidding in which we've both made a vid? I don't think there has. But if there were, I think we would be very hard to tell apart. One of these years we should do it!
