Title: "Whispering soft nothings, receiving hard somethings in exchange."

Artist/Vidder: [personal profile] strampunch
Verse: ACD canon, Granada
Characters/Pairings: Holmes/Watson
Rating: Suitable for general audiences (but implied mature themes)
Warnings: None
Summary: I was given "carte blanche" in creating anything I wanted, but after asking further I was suggested to revisit "The Adventure of The Retired Colourman". I'm afraid that the fact that stuck out to me the most was Holmes' infamous quote "I can picture you whispering soft nothings with the young lady at the Blue Anchor, and receiving hard somethings in exchange." to Watson, and the fact that this story features a telephone call between them (the story was published in 1926). I thought it was fun to feature this technology and imagine in how Holmes would torture poor Watson when appart.

A flustered Watson listens to a wall-mounted telephone while Holmes sultrily speaks into a candlestick phone, plus three close-ups of Holmes' mouth as he speaks

Watson's expression! He was *not* expecting to hear that, lol. I think Holmes has shocked his garters right off.... I do hope the operator is not listening in!

Watson's face (and his apparently equally flustered hat) are just a delight.

BASTARD ALERT! Oh he knows exactly what he's doing, look at that smirk. The way he's fiddling with the telephone like the Edwardian equivalent of twirling the wire? Watson trying to bury himself in his own jacket? Look at the iron grip he has on the telephone box lmao. He's a flustered mess. I love this a lot, and the silent film effect of the first three panels is simply gorgeous.

I love everything about this! Those silent movie-type frames of Holmes's lips! The way Holmes is trailing a finger over his phone, and the way Watson is gripping his for dear life! That knowing look on Holmes! Watson's face!

Thank you for this wonderful thing, and all the thought you put into it! I didn't remember that there was a phone conversation in "The Retired Colourman", so this was a delightful surprise and I think I have to reread the story. Thank you, and thank you again!
