Title: beyond your peripheral vision
Recipient:

Vidder:
rachelindeed
Verse: Granada
Characters/Pairings: Irene Adler & Sherlock Holmes & many of the ladies of canon. Gen, with background Irene/Godfrey Norton, Irene/King of Bohemia, and glancing references to other relationships from the Doyle stories.
Rating: G
Summary: Irene Norton, née Adler, moves through life with love, courage, occasional heartbreak, intelligence, pride, and generosity. Along the way, she opens Holmes's eyes to his own biases. He takes the lesson to heart and grows more mindful of the women he encounters in his cases, regarding them with greater attention, admiration, and empathy as they navigate their own dangers and adventures. This vid celebrates all of that, and all of them.

Date: 2020-12-05 08:56 pm (UTC)I love this interpretation of Scandal. Irene Adler is on a different level from the king, but from Holmes, too -- only Holmes has the wit and humility to realise and learn from it. She teaches him to drink Respect Women Juice, and we get to see the happy results of that for the rest of canon!
(Someday you are gonna get hungry, and eat most of the words you just said.)
But oh, that final montage...! The women of canon, resourceful, determined, agents of their own destinies, with rich lives and rewarding relationships...! They are remarkable people, all of them, from the highborn ladies to the kitchen maids, and I love this tribute to them. I love, too, that Holmes sees them now, sees and respects them for the remarkable individuals they are. (The sympathetic press of the maid's hand at the end!) I have yet to watch that montage without tearing up.
And not just me:
me: It is, it is, it really really is.
*sniff*
Such, such, such a good vid! Thank you so much, Anonymous Vidder!

I don't know the character (in this specific canon, I mean) but this song is clearly a perfect choice for this Irene Adler.
And (even though I seem to be not a very visual-medium person, and often don't "get" vids and other visual things the way that I "get" books and written stories) I absolutely get the story here: A portrait of Irene Adler, but then also a portrait of the women of canon, and of Holmes learning to see and value them, but also of their own strengths in and of themselves...
Augh, this is so good.
You've also made me want to watch Granada, something I still haven't managed.
