Things I love in canon fic:

• Historical detail (maybe Holmes and Watson are personally affected by a major event [anything but Jack the Ripper please]).
• First forays into the underground queer culture of the era (especially Turkish baths and gentlemen's clubs).
• Awestruck Watson.

Things I love in BBC fic:

• John displaying All the Machismo while struggling with his sexuality internally.
• Emotional constipation.
• Post-S4 with no mention of Eurus and Moriarty. 

Things I love in/prompt ideas that can be applied to either ‘verse:

• Something focused on SH's nerdery: bees, classical music, chemistry, bartitsu/Judo, etc.
• Features another literary/film/TV detective (maybe SH gets competitive).
• SH and JW going away together (for a case or on an unexpected holiday).
• Former romantic interest from SH or JW's past shows up. Jealousy ensues.
• Badass JW.
