A fanwork of the following type(s): fic, vids, art, podfic
In one or more of the following parts of fandom: Books: Doyle - Canon; Seven Per-Cent Solution (Meyer); TV/Film: Granada TV Show; Ritchie Films; Whitehead Holmes; BBC Sherlock
For one or more of the following relationships: Holmes/Watson, or Holmes & Watson; can create gen works for most other characters though I prefer to avoid the villains.
I like working with one or more of the following categories: Romance; Established Relationship; Humor; Alternate Universe; Friendship; Hurt/Comfort; Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence; Magical Realism or Fairy Tale/Myth; Outsider POV; Epistolary; Character Study or Slice of Life; Reading Between the Lines of a Doyle Story; Sussex Retirement
With any of the following ratings: 1) suitable for general audiences; 2) non-explicit sexual content; 4) mild to moderate violence or depictions of non-sexual mature themes
I am willing to create for the following squicks and/or kinks: None.
I want to receive:
A fanwork of the following type(s): fic, vids, art
In one or more of the following parts of fandom: Books: Doyle - Canon; Test of the Professionals and/or You Buy Bones (Marcia Wilson); TV/Film: Granada TV Show; Ritchie Films; Whitehead Holmes; Murder By Decree
For one or more of the following relationships: Holmes/Watson, or Holmes & Watson; I'm open to receiving gen works about most other characters but I prefer to avoid the villains.
I like stuff in the following categories: Romance; Established Relationship; Humor; Alternate Universe; Friendship; Hurt/Comfort; Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence; Magical Realism or Fairy Tale/Myth; Outsider POV; Epistolary; Character Study or Slice of Life; Reading Between the Lines of a Doyle Story; Sussex Retirement; Watson Being Clever
With any of the following ratings: 1) suitable for general audiences; 2) non-explicit sexual content; 3) explicit sexual content; 4) mild to moderate violence or depictions of non-sexual mature themes
I wouldn’t mind any of the following squicks and/or kinks: None (that is to say, if you want to write sex, feel free, but in that case I prefer for the focus to be more emotional than kinky. I’m also happy with no sex or fade-to-black sex, whatever you want to do is fine). For art and vids, I prefer SFW.
Please include further details about what you’d like to receive: Hello! Thank you so much for making a gift for me! 😊
Regarding my general tastes: I don’t like angst, though if you don't want to write something without tension, I can enjoy subtle conflict. But generally, I prefer to avoid too much suffering or unhappiness, and anything disturbing or depressing. Something on the lighter side would be much appreciated! (I realize I listed hurt/comfort as a possible category, so I should clarify: I’m fine with temporary pain or peril that is resolved in the end. I can also handle clients and/or patients in distress, provided that Holmes and Watson are doing their best to help them).
Watson is my favorite character, and I love seeing his relationship with Holmes portrayed with warmth, mutual respect, and devotion – whether that takes the form of romance, sex, friendship, or anything in between is up to you, I will enjoy any variation you please. I would just ask that you don’t pair them with other people besides each other, as I don’t enjoy imagining that. Gen fic focusing on them, or on secondary characters, is also welcome.
Regarding Test of the Professionals and/or You Buy Bones, obviously the primary focus there would be on the Yarders -- you can include Holmes/Watson, or Holmes &Watson, or just Watson, as much or as little as you like (or background Watson/Mary, I can't remember if they're married in these series or if Watson is single or widowed...if he's married to Mary in your story, please stick to friendship rather than romance between Holmes and Watson). I have not actually read Wilson's novels yet, but I read the initial versions of Test of the Professionals and You Buy Bones, along with many of the authors' other works about the Yarders, back when they existed only as fanfic :) I've always loved her writing and her version of Lestrade and the others. If you need to adopt a more somber tone to tell the story of your heart in this verse then please feel free to do so (I will waive my usual angst-aversion for this series if necessary); that being said, if you can write something happy, healing, or gentle for these characters I would love that.
If, like me, you ship Holmes/Watson, I particularly enjoy established relationship fic and domesticity. Romance can certainly take center stage. Alternatively, I also enjoy watching them working together competently and compassionately, with their personal love and affection for each other shining through subtly rather than needing to be the central focus.
I find poetry and quotations sometimes make for nice prompts; potentially inspiring without dictating too many specifics. Here are a few that have a Holmesian flavor in my mind, maybe one of them might spark an idea you’d like to explore:
“We succeed in enterprises which demand the positive qualities we possess, but we excel in those which can also make use of our defects.” (Alexis de Tocqueville)
“I know that the twelve notes in each octave and the variety of rhythm offer me opportunities that all of human genius will never exhaust.” (Igor Stravinsky)
“Those Marriages generally abound most with Love and Constancy, that are preceded by a long Courtship.” (Joseph Addison)
For vids, I like all kinds of music and will enjoy anything you create! Holmes/Watson shippiness is always welcome, but I also love vids focused on humor, adventure, or friendship. Go as the spirit moves you!
The same can be said for art, I would welcome anything involving any of the Holmeses or Watsons who appear in my requested verses -- though if you are drawing for Granada, I do have a preference for Hardwicke's Watson, as he is my favorite and most of the fan art in that 'verse tends to favor Burke :)
If you would find more verse-specific prompts helpful, just ask the mods to ask me and I'd be happy to send you some optional prompts for any adaptation you may choose to create for, or just tell you some of my favorite things about that verse :) But of course also feel free to do your own thing!
Finally, a quick list of Do Not Wants: please avoid non-con/dub-con, infidelity, sex work/prostitution, dark!fic, the good guys torturing or killing bad guys, abortion or miscarriage, unhappy endings, main character deaths.
Thank you very much, and wishing you a happy Holmestice!
