Thank you to everyone who submitted your works this weekend! (And well-wishes to those of you who took extensions and are still finishing up your works!) While we're scurrying about getting ready to begin posting on Sunday, here is the promised video and slides from the presentation we gave at the Left Coast Sherlockian Symposium in October!

The video mostly doesn't show the slides; we've included a link to the slides so you can follow along. Or you can go through the slides without the video: the speaker notes for each slide contain our intended remarks about the slide. (Which in some cases is a little different than what we actually said -- we ran long on the first half of the presentation, so had to streamline our remarks for the actual Holmestice part.)

The audience for the presentation ran heavily toward "Scion" style fandom (where fans meet in-person and write mock academic articles about Holmes and company), and so we spent the first part of our presentation explaining a little about online fandom and gift exchanges for them. The part about Holmestice in particular begins around 20:40 / Slide 17.

Thank you to everyone who filled out our survey about Holmestice, and we hope you enjoy the presentation!

Listened to this while making dinner tonight--what a great presentation! Glad the audience was so receptive and curious. This made me want to venture into More!Holmes for next round...

We could've both yammered on for another hour! And thank you!! You could always start by dipping your toe into a 'verse that is very canon focused. I mean, I don't consider myself a more!Holmes person, but technically Bert Coules is.

STILL haven't had a chance to watch this, because I want to give it the attention it deserves, but thank you so much for sharing! I'm keeping it open in a separate window so that I can't possibly forget to watch when I finally have a chance. :-)

We tried to ensure that the speakers notes were rather thorough and stood on their own with the slides in addition to the video. We want the presentation to be as accessible to people as possible!

I hope you do enjoy it when you get a chance to watch it.

My aversion to Moriarty and my analysis skills have reached a bigger audience! I was thrilled about that ^______^

I so enjoyed this - it's such a well-put together talk. I loved watching the increasing confidence and passion, and I thought you both dealt so elegantly with the end part, when you had to move through the material rather more quickly than you would have liked.

It all made me feel very proud of being part of Holmestice, and I was so pleased there was so much interest from your audience.

I don't know if you could hear the audience reaction there, but they quite appreciated your attention to copyediting details!

I'm glad you liked the talk! It's an easy topic to be passionate about -- there's so much about the exchange that makes me happy, and it was fun to get to share some of those things. And I'm glad it was still sensible at the end, when I was having to book for time -- happily, one of the upsides of knowing your presentation well is that you know what the point of each slide is, so you can just make it and move.

And yes, they were a good audience! Kind and welcoming and curious, everything a speaker could want!

I finally had a chance to watch this, and it's such a delight! Seriously, thank you for having the foresight to record this and share it with us.

(Still so flattered to have been quoted.) And I was honestly nearly teary-eyed by the time I got to the end of the video. What a beautiful community you've created and nurtured.

“If it has a terrible season 4, for example” ...heh!

“they all pull back at the last second from saying outright that they liked their own story” - hmm, what an interesting point to be kept in mind for future guessing rounds. ;-)

Dizzy with delight at the mention, in the notes on the slides, of increased interest 221B Baker Towers. If I had a small hand in that, I am just beyond ecstatic! ([personal profile] sanguinity, did you see that there's already one 221BBT story in this year's Yuletide???)

Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed that! And yes, we think the Holmestice community is pretty special, too. I'm so glad that came through. :-)

I can't imagine how that observation could POSSIBLY be useful to you during guessing.

There was a question in the survey about new-to-you universes discovered through Holmestice, and several people mentioned your 22BBT story, yes. :-) And NO, I did NOT see that! I haven't been tracking Yuletide at all. (Oh, goodness, there's an Adventures of Shirley Holmes story, too! How exciting!)

I just watched the video, and it was such a lovely talk! There was just such a good spirit around the whole thing, it was so clear that you were both speaking with love for what you do, and the audience seemed so kind and pleasantly surprised. A really delightful event! :)
