Summary: During the 1890s the astronomical significance of Stonehenge was rediscovered, after which increasingly large numbers of people gathered to watch the sunrise on the summer solstice each year. Of course Holmes would be the one to solve Stonehenge's clues. Apologies if this has been done before - I'd be astonished if it hasn't but it hopefully fulfills your prompt!

This is gorgeous! And how very appropriate to display this one just before the summer solstice tomorrow.

Wow, that is spectacular! The watercolor sunrise, the shadows, the whole air of wonder and mystery - it's beautiful. I love the idea of Holmes solving the mystery of Stonehenge's relationship to the solstice. I've never run across that idea before, but it's a great thought and a neat piece of history. Thank you for sharing both the concept and the striking art!

This is very pretty. I love the arrangement of the shadows, and the difference between Watson's stargazer pose and Holmes's no-nonsense pose. And do I spot some romantic handholding in front of that dreamy sunrise?

I so admire those beautiful colours. I'm especially taken with that dramatic sky and the way Holmes and Watson's clothes seem to echo the colours of the natural world around them.

Beautiful! Oh how this fits me to a tee—archaeology, summertime, these two fools, everything I could ask for. I love the combination of ink and watercolor. The cross hatching on the henge wows me. Echoing everyone’s comments on the coloring, because it’s just superb! I am, for some reason, very drawn to the orangey stone on the right, which seems to have captured Watson’s attention as well.

On a personal note, I have a very intense sensory reaction to pre-dawn/twilight when the sky is bright and saturated with color and all the tangible bits of the world stand inky black against it. This piece really evokes that awe for me.

Thank you very much for such a lovely gift-work. The mods were truly saving the best for last. Happy Holmestice to all!

At the risk of reading too much into this, I love the way Holmes is actually reaching out for Watson. There's a touch of awe but als being just a bit overwhelmed by it all. Wonderfully done.

This is just lovely -- their wonder and Holmes's laser focus are both so clear, as is their intimacy.

Lovely! The colors and composition, with the shadow making them seem as solid and unchanging as the stones themselves. I saw someone above mentioning the site's mystery, which came to mind, too, of course, but I also thought of another line here: "Good old Watson! You are the one fixed point in a changing age." Enjoyed! M.
