Please include further details about what you’d like to receive:

Do Not Wants: death, torture, whump, non-con. Vidding-wise, I’m sensitive to shaky-cam-like motion and rhythmic fade-to-blacks, please see my most recent Dear Festividder letter.

Wants: I like old and deep relationships with a lot of history in them, people who know each other very well but still occasionally mistake each other's meaning and intentions. I very much prefer relationships where people try to be generous with each other, and in general, I find the question of what one does with loving someone far more interesting than whether one loves someone. My actual kink, as you might imagine from that, is the intricacies of navigating a relationship.

I’m also a big fan of intertextuality, talking back to canon, unreliable narrators, canon as a constructed text, wrestling with the great unwieldly mythic legacy of canon and its adaptive traditions… These things are catnip to me, and if you’ve got some idea you want to play with, please do! Same with crossovers and fusions — I’m familiar with many of the screen adaptations, and I’m happy to do some more homework and read/watch a thing if you think there’s rich ground there. (I’m not keen on a BBC Sherlock fusion, thank you.) If you’re interested in doing an extra-Holmesian crossover, [livejournal.com profile] grrlpup can give you insight as to whether I know the other canon or not. (Actually, she can probably get an answer to most questions without tipping me off that it’s Holmestice-related.)

Prompts for specific ‘verses, should you find prompts helpful:

Sherlock Ferret: I loved the ferocity with which Ferret defended Watson from Colonel Moorhen; I'd be delighted by Watson discovering that, despite his small size and lack of sharp teeth, he has the courage and resourcefulness to return the favour? But honestly, this cast is so utterly charming, you could focus on any of them, tooth-rotting fluff to skin-of-their-teeth adventures, and I expect I'd love it.

Mycroft Holmes - Abdul-Jabbar & Waterhouse: I’d adore something Douglas-centric. The genesis and growth of Douglas and Mycroft’s relationship; the emotional fallout of the events of the novel; further adventures with Douglas and Mycroft; Douglas and Mycroft tussling over Mycroft’s civil service; Douglas’ opinion of the Diogenes; Douglas, that old hand at handling a Holmes, meeting still-wet-behind-his-ears Watson; Douglas and Watson during the Great Hiatus… Or, if you have an idea of your own, run with it!

Mary Russell - King: I would love something about Iris Sutherland (Justice Hall), if it clicks for you. Her relationship with Dan, Iris and Mary teaming up on a case, Iris and Mary PWNing all the menz, or whatever occurs to you. I'd also be happy with anything that centered on nearly any of the other women I've met in the series. (So many to choose from!) Sadly, I haven't read all the books yet -- only through Justice Hall, plus the pirate one and the wedding one and the Holmes-pov of Apprentice.

Moriarty novels - Kurland: I love the dry wit of these, and the did-he-or-didn't-he unreliability of Moriarty's version of events. (I'm also amused by the notion that his criminal activities exist to fund his researches. Grants are difficult! So are patrons!) The characters I listed above -- Cecily, Madeleine, Jenny (all from The Great Game; Cecily is also in Death by Gaslight) -- each lit my imagination, and I'd love to have more about any of them. (Is there a connection between Jenny Vernet and Irene Adler? Tell me.) But if you simply want to tell stories about kite-flying for science (or "science"), I'm good with that, too. Here, too, I haven't read the whole series yet -- I'm only through The Great Game.

Elementary: Gina Cortes came on screen -- a boxing, woman-loving, woc, someone who pushes and challenges Joan to defend the things she does! -- and my heart soared. So many opportunities for so many kinds of things: femslash, explorations of Joan’s character, Joan's ethics and her relationship with the police, more boxing, their promised race to the bottom... Similarly, Lin Yun came on screen, and again, so many opportunities for so many kinds of stories! Their pasts, their families, their disappointments and hopes and willingness/unwillingness to feel their own emotions… Or tell us more about Joan's long pursuit of Elena March! Or really, anything Joan-centric -- it's fine by me if you wander afield of the specific characters I named (although I'd rather you didn't wander into Joaniarty territory, thank you).

Vidding-wise, if you feel there’s enough footage for a vid about Joan’s relationship with either of Cortes or Lin, I’d be thrilled. I’d also thoroughly enjoy a Joan-centric vid, about her hopes and dreams and disappointments and relationships. The show gives us so many tantalizing glimpses of Joan and her life before yanking the narrative focus back to Sherlock; I’d love to see something where the focus stays firmly on Joan and the complexity of her life.

My Dearly Beloved Detective: Things I’m curious about: what drove these two to apply for those roles, what stepping into them felt like, if they ever rebel against them, what building their own partnership in the shadow of that wholly-fictional partnership felt like, all of it. Or fast-forward to the other end: what does retirement look like, from roles that are both real and not-real, in a post-atomic world? Or if you wanted to write some Holmes/Watson femslash, that would be lovely, too. With respect to tone, do whatever best serves: stay with farce or dial it all the way to earnest; I trust you to know what works for what you want to do. Vidding-wise, I have no specific prompts, but I pinky-promise not to mind the VHS rip.

New Russian Holmes (2013): This adapt does things I crave: it explicitly acknowledges that Holmes-as-written is an idealization for the popular taste, and it attempts to engage with the sticky issues of Britain’s imperialism and the institutionalized violence in policing. It also has one of my favorite Watsons, a lovely Mrs. Hudson, and an excellent boxing throughline… The main thing I don’t love is the handling of Irene Adler. If you’re considering making a vid and wanted to bring in footage from the 1980s Lenfilm production (compare, contrast, talkback, Lenfilm as the stories Watson is writing), I’m 100% down with that. Otherwise, I have very little in the way of specific prompts: show me something that you love about this series, and I’m sure I’ll love it, too.

Baker Street: I love the hard-fought push and pull, how quickly they flip between Jane being the voice of authority, to Sherlock, and back again. Their relationship was such a quick build, tested before their trust for each other was fully certain -- perhaps if you wished to expand on the things they didn't have time to show us? Missing scenes, post-canon, whatever makes you happy, I'm sure it'll make me happy, too.

Further Adventures - Coules (radio): I adore these stories, and would love to see interstitials, extensions, aftermaths, what-have-you. Favourite episodes include LION, Gloria Wilson, Cripplegate Square, and Colonel Warburton, but honestly, center your thing on any episode that strikes your fancy, and I'm sure I'll love it, too.

The Death and Life (Big Finish): I have to laugh forever at anyone who thinks they can bring Moriarty into being and have him meekly do their bidding. (Although I can see Doyle not realizing he had the tiger by the tail, given that he was the first to make the attempt!) I'd love fix-it where Watson also comes to learn he's in a fictional universe (and what he does with that knowledge!), or more info about what Moriarty chose to do after he and Holmes shook hands and parted at the Falls. Or if you have an idea of your own that is taking over seances and demanding life, I'd love to see it. I strongly request, however, that you sidestep the "Red Indian" character entirely -- I'm Lakota, and it was difficult to overlook that bit of vileness.

Special requests: Particularly with screen adapts, there are quite a few more 'verses I can create for beyond those I listed. If you're having trouble making a match and think I might be able to help, feel free to ask.
