Notes & further details:
First-time participant here, so be gentle. :-)

Actually, to be more serious: do not be intimidated or startled if you don't recognize one or more of the secondary series I mention above; I will be totally happy with ACD-traditional Holmesian material if that's where we match. Indeed, I am (with notable exceptions) more of a literary Holmesian than a screen Holmes fan. (That said, favorite films of mine include Murder By Decree and Without A Clue, I admit to finding Young Sherlock Holmes a guilty pleasure, and for all its peculiarities, I truly like Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century.)

OTOH, I am operating on the assumption that here, of all possible places, I may find a fellow reader or two whose taste in pastiche matches mine, and who may be willing to indulge me (or to be indulged) by playing in some of the more obscure corners of the extended post-Doyle sandbox.

In which light: I have read pretty darned extensively in Holmesian pastiche, up to and including the complete run of the old Holmesian Federation printzine; if there is a particular work/series you've always wanted to read or write fic for -- mention it in comments; in those cases where interests coincide, I will happily edit the foregoing signup right up to the deadline.

In this context, two notes: my favorite Mycroft is Hodel & Wright's Enter the Lion; my favorite Moriarty is Kurland's in The Infernal Device and its sequels.

My interests in Holmesian fare run more to gen than to romance, and where they do run to romance (mostly 22nd Century, Holmes/Russell) they tend to run along canon- or subcanon-consistent lines. The pairing notations above should *not* be taken to suggest that I don't want Holmes-centric fiction -- I definitely hope to see a good deal of Holmes in whatever story you choose to write -- they're simply indications of what pairings I prefer in the relevant canons or subcanons.

In terms of story types, I enjoy casefic, character vignette, and day-in-the-life material equally well, and I am especially a devotee of the well and creatively conceived crossover (although you're totally *not* obligated to write me a crossover if your muse doesn't run that way). Character-appropriate humor is always a plus. And while I've expressed a preference for Holmes-centric material above, in 22nd Century I'd be happy to see something focused on one or more of the Irregulars.

Special requests:
***ETA***  Having now read lots of other folks' signups, I now see what I totally failed to put in this section; let me now try to remedy that omission.

First, the bad news.  For good or ill, I'm in the tiny subgroup of folk here who are not able to play in either the Sherlock or Elementary sandboxes.  This should not be taken as editorial commentary of any sort; I am simply not sufficiently versed in either series to write those versions of the characters.  And as noted above, this is not a canon where I'm comfortable writing mature/explicit material.  Based on the signups I've been reading, it looks as if this may make it...challenging to assign me a gift-recipient.

That said: I like to think I'm a reasonably versatile writer.  I've done character vignettes, slice-of-life snapshots, and plot-driven stories.  I've done light, humorous work and more thoughtful material.  While I've mostly avoided writing erotica, I have written romance. And as my notes and reading lists should indicate, I am definitely open both to reading and writing non-traditional versions of the canon characters, up to and including out-and-out crossovers.  In short, I think I'm flexible enough to be matchable, even if my end of the pool is off in a corner someplace.

So happy to see you here! *waves* And what a fascinating sign-up! Look at all the interesting things!

I dunno how many older sign-ups you looked at, but I'm expecting we'll see several more SH22 and Mary Russell sign-ups, and I can think of one or two participants who might bite at your TNG request. I'm not well-versed in pastiches, but I know there are a couple of participants here who are. Which is to say: you're not without company on some of your non-ACD fandoms. :-)

(Matching on those smaller fandoms, of course, is another thing entirely. But I have the impression that the mods enjoy maximizing the chance of fills for the smaller, not-often-requested fandoms. And treats occasionally happen, too.)

Anyway, I'm happy to see you here, and I hope you meet someone whose obscurer interests coincide with your own!

We do enjoy maximizing the chance of fills for smaller fandoms. To the point that we sometimes get, "why have I been matched with this person?" emails and I have to reply, "because you're the only two that requested/offered Sherlock Hound, duh." I just wish more people would offer to write rarer fandoms, not just request them. Sometimes fills are surprises, I match them because of the ACD requests, but they end up writing Russel because they were inspired!

I tried to create a comprehensive list of Sherlock Holmes fandoms one year to inspire people, but that was a sisyphean task if I've ever encountered one.

I'm half-sure y'all matched me on Watson & Holmes last go-around. (And then I went and wrote ACD, because sometimes things don't come together, you know how it is.) But I very much enjoyed that match; it had so many delicious possibilities in it.

But I mostly just wanted to say: y'all do a lovely job with the matching, in my experience. I enjoy this exchange immensely because of it. :-)

I don't have time to participate in Holmestice, but I just wanted to comment that I love Kurland's Moriarty series (especially Empress of India and the two short stories narrated by Moriarty). Mostly because I adore the concept of Holmes and Moriarty being forced to work together.
