[personal profile] holmesticemods posting in [community profile] holmestice
And here's the bow to go on top of this wintry holiday package: a guessing post!

Before we get to the guessing, thanks so much for everyone who participated in this round of Holmestice, especially our pinch hitters who stepped up to take on difficult assignments at the last minute.

We have decided to bump up our schedule a bit, in light of the BBC Sherlock series premiere, and post the master list on Monday, December 30th. Until then, feel free to add your guesses about who created which fanwork to the comments on this post. Don't worry about getting them wrong; that's half the fun!

Below the cut is a list of our participants for this round, to aid in your guessing.

Thanks again!

Ooh, fun! Okay, I have a couple of (probably totally off-base) guesses. :D

My best guess for the haunting and beautiful A Winter Walk (http://holmestice.livejournal.com/265942.html) is [livejournal.com profile] holyfant.

And for the gorgeous 24 Frames Per Second (http://holmestice.livejournal.com/264492.html), my guess is [livejournal.com profile] radialarch.

I would lay down cash money (if I had any) that the lovely Entanglement (http://holmestice.livejournal.com/268631.html)is by [livejournal.com profile] mydwynter. The arch but affectionate way Sherlock's last line lands, combined with the strength of the feeling between them, and all the atmospheric detail remind me of his lovely fic.

The only one I am willing to stick my neck out for, other than the ones I beta read, is that [livejournal.com profile] buttsnax wrote The Case of the Severed Foot.
But just in general I want to say I am pretty darn impressed by all the talent in this fandom. You guys made for a very enjoyable December. Thank you!

Ah, so many lovely fics... a few guesses:

--cathedralcarver for Jubliee for ACD canon fabulousness

--hitlikehammers for The Zenith Point for the gorgeous concrete imagery and general destruction of all my feels

--mydwynter for A Winter's Walk for a John who burns with care and anger

But I really have no idea, frankly. There are so many excellent fics, and so many excellent authors. Thank you, everyone and mods! <3

"A Winter Walk": time and death and saying it with structure: cathedral_carver.

I couldn't quite believe there kept being work, for so long, of such high quality. But I'm a negligent sort of reader who can never pin a style to a writer unless they do something weird. (Hey, transparent writing is good!)

I'mma go out on a limb with [livejournal.com profile] mundungus42 for the impressively constructed story, "The Mystery of Ill Opinions."

*standing ovation* Well guessed!

So what's my weird thing??? Or was it just general long-windedness? :D

Oh, gosh, no - nothing actually weird in this case. I skimmed the LJs of people on the comm and I noticed what your interests were. :)

Brilliant! I ought to have known that someone involved in Holmestice would have a certain knowledge of deductive reasoning :D

Pretty sure the stunning Minutes in Night is [livejournal.com profile] detectivelyd's work. :)

There was so much amazing stuff this time round! Thanks to everyone who participated (and to the mods!!!). <3

Holyfant beat me to it. Seconded. That's the only guess I've got, though.

As a mod, I will neither guess nor confirm anyone else's guesses.

But you guys are very good at this. :)

I'm betting Jubilee is by Tweedisgood

My only guess at this point is that Cathedral_Carver did "24 Frames per Second". (Ah, but I see C_C commented on it. Hmmm.)

ETA:

"Safer" is by Saki101

"Essential" by Yeomanrand and Shinychimera

I'm much less confident about this than the other, but I'm also going to guess that the elliptical and evocative A House Already Haunted (http://holmestice.livejournal.com/259465.html) is by [livejournal.com profile] wiggleofjudas. On the other hand, I have no theories whatsoever about which story is by [livejournal.com profile] cathedralcarver. :)

Could the clean, evocative "Safer" be Saki101? Also "bury the sweet street slowly"--hearts, litany, tumbling sentences broken by short ones, single words--possibly hitlikehammers.

And "(a leaf) falls"--tense, rhythmic action (and prose), wire of feeling underneath, doubled words in ending--and the title!: radialarch?

A Winter Walk was clearly [livejournal.com profile] cathedralcarver.

A House Already Haunted was by *fit of wild coughing* someone I could have recognized BUT have been beta-reading for this whole year past, so that would be cheating. (I didn't beta this story, but auth!anon sent me a copy when it was posted here.)

Could Essential have been written by alchemical wordsmith [livejournal.com profile] what_alchemy? Could Skin-Deep have been written by the tattooed and talented [livejournal.com profile] mydwynter? I feel good about those guesses.

The evocative bury the sweet street slowly - I'd pin it on [livejournal.com profile] hitlikehammers, but that's a fairly wild swing in the dark, since I've only read one story previously by that author.

Sadly, I've been out of fandom for the past year, and I'm not as familiar with the other participants as I should be. Off to catch up, before the next season is upon us!

I still haven't managed to guess very many of these. Well, any... I guess I'll just have to be patient like Watson and wait for the reveal.
