Title: Woven together, falling apart
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] stardust_made
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] fabelschwester
Characters/Pairings: Sherlock (BBC)
Rating: G
Notes: An illustration for [livejournal.com profile] stardust_made's brilliant fic It Falls, it Turns. I remember how the image of this scene fascinated me when I first read it, and I felt it was one of these fragile things I'd never dare to put down on paper for fear of not capturing it. The image stayed with me, though, and when I got this assignment, I thought – well. And jumped.

I hope you enjoy it, merry Holmestice to you!

His brain exulted at seeing such complexity, all of it governed by the implacable force of spatial logic. But all the while his artistic streak was humming with delight, too.
(It Falls, it Turns, Chapter 11)

This is fantastic! The layers of this make me want to just keep staring at it forever; you've really captured the idea of the nuances and depth in Sherlock's mind. And his expression has this frailty about it, somehow, which is a great juxtaposition of his artistic soul with the structure inherent in the architecture here. Brilliant, anon! I'm glad you decided to tackle your idea for this story. I'd say you succeeded spectacularly.

Oh, this is absolutely stunning! You've captured younger Sherlock's expression beautifully in this incredible scene. Love the architectural details. It Falls, It Turns is one of the most fascinating, insightful, and moving story I've ever read and I'm thrilled that such a talented artist was able to depict that particular scene so vividly. Bravo!

Oh goodness, I am speechless. This is perfection both on its own and as a reflection of Sherlock's character at that point of the story. Considering that I've written nearly a quarter of a millon words of Sherlock fanfic it's natural not to remember all of them, but believe me when I say that chapter 11 of IFIT is right up there, etched in my memory. (The scene you've taken in particular was something I worked on for days as if I was spinning glass.) Your artwork absolutely captures the feeling, the concept and the prose. Not to mention that it is simply beautiful to look at and since you're so terribly kind to appreciate my writing, you know how key the beauty of the text is to me. Thank you so, so much. This is a wonderful gift that comes with great timing.♥ Happy holidays to you and your ones!

Thank you so much! I hope you had agreeable holidays, too!

I'm so very glad you like your gift. Phew, a quarter of a million words of fanfic, that's quite impressive! I'm happy I chose a scene that is dear to you. I guess it was really intense to write, but you are very skilled.
I know how it feels to do and redo something again and again. The outcome was certainly worth your effort! Speak to you later via PM!

I'm speechless! This is so fantastically beautiful. In your drawing you've captured all the layers in one of the best fics written by my favourite Sherlock writer. So thank you heartily for that. Sherlock's vulnerability, as explored by stardust_made in her wonderful journey of the soul is captured so well by your muted colouring and the faint lines of Sherlock's mind palace in which he hides, confused by this new reality he's discovered in his relation with John. The expression in his eyes of a childish wonder, the feeling of overwhelmedness that constantly pervades the story, you've got it all. This is just great. Thank you for creating such beautiful art for stardust_made and sharing it with us.

Thank you and goodbye!

Gorgeous and so fitting for this wonderful story. I love the ethereal blues and purples and greys in the background and the 'blueprint' images of architecture and geometry.

Thanks a lot! The blues and purples were a last minute change of mind... I started out mint green-ish. (WTF, I know).

I love the expression on Sherlock's face, as well as the choice to make both the lines and background multiple colors. You've evoked that passage so well!

Thank you! As someone who usually works with book!canon it is unusual to have reference pictures to work with (and trying to live up to, ha).

I have two things to thank you for: an extraordinary piece of art that is as beautiful as it is thoughtful and complex, and for compelling me to read the story that it illustrates. Young Sherlock's face, entranced by the creations of his own mind, is a thing of beauty, with wonder writ large in a way his adult self wouldn't let the world see. The mathematical and architectural elements are incredibly beautiful and well-integrated. I am so very impressed with this piece, Anon- your talent and skill are jaw-dropping. Bravissima!!!!

Absolutely gorgeous--you've really captured Sherlock's fascination, how disarmed he is, how taken in, enthralled. This is an amazing illustration.

Thank you! It took a lot of fiddling around, and if there hadn't been a deadline, I think it still wouldn't be finished.

I love the use of the architectural details woven in and around a most sensitive portrait. Gorgeous colour scheme - and there's a great sense of movement, of thoughts flickering across at great speed. Beautiful work. I must read the story...

What a beautiful picture of young Sherlock! It is a brilliant visualisation of the line you quote. Looking at it, one feels one is catching a glimpse through his luminous eyes.
