AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaa, it makes me so, so happy to see their sweet sardonic little faces! I was thrilled at the thought I might get a Whitehead/Pickering gift this round, and even more thrilled now to see it -- this encapsulates their vibe so wonderfully!!! For me, they are a couple defined by their Significant Glances, and you've drawn their expressions so *perfectly.* They have such a sense of equality and mutual delight and you've captured that somehow. I love this knowing gaze -- this almost-kiss -- as they lean into each other. I love their wedding rings, and the gorgeous smoking jackets, and the fine china only awaiting the morning's marmalade! Both of their profiles are so full of character, and there's something about the way you've drawn Pickering!Watson's eyes in particular, with that half-lidded look, the subtle raised eyebrow and deadpan expression, that just *zings* with the real energy of this show.
This ticks so many of my boxes: domesticity and established relationships and unspoken feeling and a love that feels lived in. And I think I can honestly say it's the first art I've ever seen for one of my very favorite Watsons, and Holmes/Watson pairings. I'm so happy you happened to love these two as much as I do. Your painting is a delight, and I am delighted <33333333
