I love Robert Fulghum's books, I love Sherlock/John/Lestrade, and I love this story! You haven't made Sherlock all touchy-feely, he's still very him, and the others are themselves, but somehow it all works together. I love your metaphor about them being a miniature solar system; they do a complicated dance around each other.
