Yay, I'm so happy you enjoyed this! Yes, I think RDJ Holmes would be Just That Taken With Watson right off the bat. I cribbed a bit of their first meeting from a Granada episode, actually -- at the beginning of The Three Gables (one of the worst stories), Hardwicke's Watson walks into 221B only to see Holmes being pushed out the window while clinging on for dear life. Brett looks up and exclaims, "Watson! Well-timed!" I thought to myself, I bet that's exactly how their very first meeting would have gone in the Ritchieverse :)
I do love Law's performance as Watson and he has no problem at all being Very Firm with Holmes. I'm so glad you liked the banter and also the more earnest bits.
