Well, that's it for this round!

We've posted exchange gifts for 41 fanwork creators in just under 2 weeks.

Reveals and the master list will be posted on the summer solstice - Monday, June 20th.

In the mean time, read the fic or view the art or listen to the podfic. And comment here or our AO3 collection to let these creators know how much we've all appreciated their work.

If you'd like to take a guess about who created which work, feel free to leave it in the comments. But we won't tell until the 20th. :)

It is a shame; I wish I could play properly, too. But we shall just make the best of it.

What I can't decide is how many of those guesses are in earnest and how many are part of his attempt at subterfuge. Once he took his own name out of the pool, he had to double someone to supply a full slate of guesses -- I am honored to have been chosen for the role, and would like to thank both the mods and the Academy -- but unless he's gone abruptly dark horse on us, he didn't put my name on anything he might have authored. (Perhaps he remembers how effective that was last time?) Mathematically, that means that there's a chain of errors/misdirections between one of his guesses for me and the thing that he actually made.

So here's the question: which of these guesses are in earnest, and which are part of his sneaky plan?

What one should note about [livejournal.com profile] sanguinity's comment just above:

(1) The assertion that I needed to assign someone two works in order to make my math work is...suspect. That's the beauty of not taking guesses on (most of) the Sherlock stories; it leaves a pool of folk who offered both ACD *and* Sherlock who are all available as cards held up one's sleeve.

(2) The implicit assertion that she herself surely didn't author multiple works is also suspect, as prior rounds illustrate.

(3) On balance, I submit that she's actually being sneakier than I am this time around. (Someone should give her a mustache to twirl....)

What a fabulous guessing thread! I've somehow missed these in the past. What fun! I'm very impressed with everyone's logic. Bravo guessers!

Thank you to the mods for all the work!

I am now dying for the reveals. Because of reasons.

I confess to a degree of smugness.

For the record, I am KICKING MYSELF that I didn't guess that one was yours. But you are such a chameleon, it's really hard to pin you down. But the breezy cleverness should have been a giveaway. I initially strongly suspected you for Case-by-Case Basis, but once you commented on that I had to go back to the drawing board!

But this just leaves me opportunity to re-read and re-comment when it moves to AO3, so actually we're all winners here :)

I just want to say I'm delighted you guessed mine -- I really didn't think anyone would! Bravo!!

I was, okay, particularly pleased at having snookered you! Especially since, speaking of versatility, I don't think I've ever once guessed which fic is yours.

ETA: Good heavens, in fact I didn't even read yours this round! Shame on me, and grumble grumble I probably won't have time till much later today grumble grumble.

And the post-mortem:

I ended up doing really well on the audiovisual side (7 for 8 correct!). but not nearly so well on the prose-fic side (4 of 17 correct, with three of the four in very narrowly defined pools). I also, per comments elsewhere, once again entirely failed to fake out [livejournal.com profile] sanguinity. (Clearly, that's a well-deserved user name....)

OTOH, the floor show appears to have done a good job of entertaining the gallery while we were awaiting reveals, and that's not to be sneezed at.

Concerning your guess of me for the bee story, you're at the disadvantage of not being familiar with the Elementary fandom: [livejournal.com profile] gardnerhill has been writing crack about the brownstone bees for longer than I have. The "Bees - character" tag was hers first. :-)

But my cackling was about your theory that you could recognize a contribution of mine by a kudos from [livejournal.com profile] grrlpup. I challenge you to find any story of mine she's clicked kudos on; I don't think there's a single one. :-D

You were right about me and that is no surprise. No one could ask for a more insightful reader! Still, when I saw your guess, I wanted to tell you straight away and had to contain myself! :-D

It was great fun reading these guesses. I'm not sure what it means that everyone who attempted a guess at mine, got it right, but I've been impatient to thank them. Thank you!

Thank you for the very flattering words accompanying your correct guess about my fic. The length definitely, ha! I just can't seem to write short things. :p

It's so odd - I think part of my brain always knew the fic was yours. When I first read it, I thought: I'm having a strong emotional reaction - just like when I read rachelindeed's fic in the last round. And: Isn't it strange Rachel hasn't commented on this fic yet? - It's just the sort of thing that would appeal to her ^_^ But I never consciously connected it with you - because I didn't connect you with the 'verse. And when it turned out there were two podfics, I assumed the En Passant one had to be yours, and the other (plus fic) was by jagnikjen.

It was only when you talked about The Way to a Man's Heart probably being by swissmarg, and graycardinal attributed her podfic to you, that I thought: Well, that doesn't make sense. And I finally had a light bulb moment ^_^

:: It's just the sort of thing that would appeal to her ^_^ ::

My usual tip-off that someone wrote a thing is the overwhelming urge to rec it to them IMMEDIATELY. It's usually while I'm typing up why it's such a PERFECT fit for their tastes, it's like it was WRITTEN FOR THEM that I realize what's happening.

Why yes, that is a project that I might chosen, well-spotted! :-D

Would you enjoy prompting a vidlet? It's part of the Holmestice fun for me to offer a treat for people who correctly guess my contribution, and wouldn't you know, I have a TON of Holmesian source sitting on my hard-drive, plus a deep stack of notes about where the cool bits are, and I used only the barest fraction of any of it in the vid.

So. Prompt a vidlet? Topic or 'verse (no BBC please for force-balancing reasons, but obvs nearly anything else in the vid is a go, and I've got a few more adapts sitting around that I haven't used, try me).

I'd ask to know what external evidence makes one of those two attributions nearly certain, but I'm guessing the stack of HOUN liveblogs in my journal might have helped facilitate your guessing. Or maybe the way I told you where you could find source for 1994 Baker Street. Or really, any number of other things. ;-)

But congratulations, you guessed correctly! Would you enjoy prompting a vidlet? It's part of the fun for me to offer a treat to people who guess me correctly, and as it happens I have a TON of mostly-untapped Holmesian source and content notes burning a hole in my hard drive.

So, prompt a vidlet? Topic or 'verse, please. Obvs nearly anything in the vid is a go, but also a few more 'verses besides, like Bravestarr/23C and various things that never made it into the vid. Try me. :-)

You think correctly, congratulations!

Would you enjoy prompting a vidlet? It's part of the party for me to offer a treat to people who guess me correctly, and as you might imagine, I have a LOT more source and lists-of-cool-things-that-might-work-in-a-vid than I managed to actually use. :-)

So, prompt a vidlet? Topic or 'verse. Nearly anything in the vid is a go, obvs., but I've also got a bunch more stuff sitting around besides that never made it in, try me. :-)

Oh my goodness, what a delightful idea! Thank you for this offer, what a treat!

Well, my favorite character is Watson, and when I tried to think of what prompt might make for an interesting vidlet, this is what sprang to mind: There is a passage in the Doyle story "Charles Augustus Milverton" where Holmes plans to undertake a risky and illegal mission for the sake of helping a client, and Watson insists on coming along to help. Holmes (probably trying to protect him) tells him that it would be pointless for him to come because he wouldn't be of any use. And Watson replies: "You don't know that. You can't tell what may happen. And in any case, my resolution is taken. Other people besides you have self-respect, and even reputations."

That is one of my favorite lines in the ACD canon, because I love to see Watson's self-respect and I love it when his usefulness and honorable qualities are recognized. So, I would love to see a vidlet that looks at moments either where Watson's good qualities are recognized by others, or where it's clear that he takes pride in them himself (or herself). One scene in this regard springs immediately to mind for me: it's at the end of Without a Clue, where Michael Caine's Holmes tells the waiting crowd how remarkable Ben Kingsley's Watson is, and they all begin to applaud him. If that scene could inspire a vidlet with similar themes, I would be so excited. And obviously if what I've said is too specific, feel free to just go in whatever direction your muses lead you! But moments of recognition/respect/self-respect from various Watsons in film would be very lovely to see.

Thanks again for your amazing vid, it was really a highlight of Holmestice and I've already watched it many times! It's so nice of you to share more with us, too, this is wonderful :)
