Oh, I really like this! I am bookmarking it because I thought about it so much last night that I had to come back and reread it, so obviously it's not a once-read-then-forget kind of piece for me.
The misunderstanding seems very much something that would happen in Sherlock's mind (and John's too because, really, how can you figure how Sherlock's mind will go?), and I love how you show that fantasies don't always play out well in reality. I can definitely understand the appeal of the riding crop, but I wouldn't want it myself and rather like that neither John nor Sherlock wants to be hurt in sex! The ice cream comfort was delicious on many, many levels. ;)
Sherlock's admission that he assumed being buggered would be better with John, and John's wanting to cuddle up and protect Sherlock, they both really killed me here and made me want to hug them both myself.
