Winter 2024 Guessing Post!

Thank you so much for another wonderful round of Holmestice! The mods want to say THANK YOU to all the creators who joined us this round. Being in this community with you is a joy and an honour.

Reveals and the Master List go up on December 21st. Until then, please enjoy and comment on all the lovely fanworks. (If you haven't thanked your creator for your own gift yet, please do!) Creators, please do NOT respond to Dreamwidth comments with your name attached or post your works elsewhere on the Internet until reveals go up in the community. You may of course reply to comments on AO3, which preserves your anonymity.

Meanwhile, stay tuned: treats are coming up! We have a bumper crop this round! For anyone thinking of making a treat, we will accept treats until reveals, so if there's a prompt that inspires you, please have at it! Just use the regular submission guidelines and send your headers to holmesticemods@gmail.com.

If you'd like to guess who created what in this round, here's a list of all the contributors for the main gifts. (You'll have to put in some extra work to guess the treat-makers!) Go ahead and take a guess! It's all in good fun.

Go forth and leave love for your fellow Holmestice artists, authors, podficcers, and vidders! See you again on the 21st, when we reveal who made what!

Oh, I really like that framing. I am two things at once: I LOVE Chanukah and associate it with such warm, homey, family memories, and continuing to share that tradition with people I love is really important to me; also, I'm highly aware that religiously speaking Chanukah is a minor holiday, and has taken on this outsized importance in the US because of its proximity to Christmas, so when people go too far in the direction of treating it like the Jewish equivalent to Christmas it starts to make me wary, because that just feels like yet another form of assimilation. (Which, the whole point of Chanukah is celebrating resistance to that!) But framing Chanukah as a "disapora holiday" clicks and makes sense to me – thank you!

(ps I would love to read that Chanukah/Christmas dinner!)

Yeah people seem to go out of their way to remind me it is a “minor” holiday, and gained some prominence being closer to Christmas, but that hasn’t been my experience. We *only* did Chanukkah as a kid. No High Holy Days. That was too religious for my parents. They could handle “we lived, let’s eat” though. So yeah, minor…and…all I had.
My ex wished me a “Happy ChrisKwanzanHanukka!” This is, like, exactly the sort of thing you should do if you want to piss me off. I wished him a Merry Christmas.

Would you still want to read it in January? I promised myself no other writing till my FTH is done, which is critical to finish by 12/31

Absolutely I'd still want to read it in January! ...Frankly, I'll be *lucky* if I manage to read it in January – there are things of yours from a couple years ago I still haven't managed to circle back around and read :-( But yes, the interest is always there!!
