Oh, goodness, what a clever way to bring a whole bunch of Watsons and Holmeses together! All their interactions are so much fun, and you did a really impressive job of keeping them all distinct from each other – no mean feat with five people of the same name running around!
I am still falling over in delight at the idea of payment in fanfic. Amazing.
Shout-out too for Joan's POV that John is “the masculine derivative of Joan”!! Of course if Joan’s the main character, she's going to think of herself as the default and these other, masculine Watsons as a weird aberration – and really, why not? It was wonderful to see the perspective turned around like that.
And ending with the ACD Watson was unexpected and poignant – but very fitting, to come back to the canon version of the character in the end.
