I don't know how intentional the title was, but it was perfect. This just fit between the two movements of Holmes's life and allowed us a glimpse of exactly who died over the falls and who lived.
I loved so much how little he was aware of everything, how little Irene was able to tell him and yet how much he thought he was getting. I loved his emotions and how you made me, the reader, so beautifully experience them. I loved his reluctance to meet Irene, but at the same time how he did it anyway because it almost seemed inevitable he would.
I loved her offer of help. Her intelligence and wit. I especially loved how she saw not only through his physical disguise, but his emotional one as well. I loved how you portrayed her.
This was gorgeous. Simple and poignant. A vignette. An intermezzo. Thank you so very much.
